    (1) Does “profile” result in a request? (In <link rel=”profile” href=”http://gmpg.org/xfn/11″&gt;)

I see “profile” is a non-global HTML Attribute value, dropped in HTML5, whose relationship (rel) is set with the link tag in the <head> section.

But “profile” isn’t referenced anywhere after that in the site’s source.
    (2) Does that mean no TCP request, using up time, is made to http://gmpg.org/xfn/11 ?
(I see from earlier posts that this link isn’t an “actual link” because it’s merely a reference in the header.php and not on the webpage as a clickable link.)

Mukesh recommends removing this gmpg.org link from the header.php file

    (3) Is that just a silly thing to do, is it really just a few bytes that are equivalent to a comment in recognition of Tantek Celik, Matthew Mullenweg and Eric Meyer, or maybe just an encouragement to use the additional ‘rel’ values listed at gmpg.org?

It’s left in by other speed wizards e.g.

    (4) Is it a relevant risk that the gmpg.org server was apparently hacked last year?

I see gmpg was explained earlier, but without an answer to the question on removing it

I’m guessing maybe it’s in there for future-proofing.

Thanks for answering these beginner questions! And yeah, I should just stop worrying ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi there,

It doesn’t result in an extra request. This might clear things up a bit: https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/173117/why-is-there-a-link-tag-with-rel-profile-pointing-to-gmpg-org

I wouldn’t worry too much, every single WordPress site has that same tag in the header ๐Ÿ™‚
