GenerateBlocks Reuseable Template Error
9 replies · Started by Ben on July 30, 2021
Hello,
Experiencing an issue where reuseable blocks are only converting to regular blocks once, then it starts throwing an error for any extra I attempt. If I reload the page, it will allow me to convert another template. But only one at a time?
However, if I hit 'edit', then 'save', all future conversions to reg. blocks works fine. See video for demonstration... Any ideas?
Currently:
GP Prem: 2.03
GenerateBlocks: 1.3.5
GB Pro: 1.0.3
Also, I did attempt to run through the whole workflow with all plugins except GB, GB Pro, GP deactivated. Same result.
Hi there,
is it only happening with Reusable Blocks that have GB Content ?
Hi David, I haven't tested that theory. Let me give it a go
Confirmed. Yes it is only happening with GB content. I will continue testing this with more elements in the non-GB reuseable block but it seems to be the case that it's GB content only that is affected
So watching the video - the issue occurs if you add the same reusable block more than once to the post editor ?
As an aside are you using GB Pro ? If so then i would recommend using the GB Local Templates instead of using reusable blocks that will be converted to Regular Blocks.
Yes that's correct. I can add > convert > edit one. Then the next/subsequent ones I can only add. No longer can convert.
Yes we are using GB Pro
I looked at the resources for Local Templates. I couldn't wrap my head around it well enough to formulate a good SOP. This is a portfolio of about 25 sites with 15 or so VAs working with this stuff. So need to keep it simple otherwise small problems can propagate quickly.
This system worked well for us on 2 full site conversions previously, over 1000 pages were pulled off Thrive and moved to GB.
We'll do some testing to see whats going on here.
Do you have a work around for now ?
I believe this is an issue with how GB blocks generate their unique IDs. It should be fixed in GB 1.4 (https://github.com/tomusborne/generateblocks/tree/release/1.4.0) which will be entering public alpha testing soon. I'll keep this open until then so we can confirm that it's fixed.
Thanks gentlemen!
Yeah workaround for now is just insert the template, convert, then duplicate the section instead of inserting another template. So no big deal really either.
Appreciate the heads up
