format search bar in top bar

I added a search box and button to my topbar, but want to format the box and change the button to a magnifying glass. I found some CSS references but they aren't working so I think I need to understand how i reference the search widget in the top bar. Can you help me understand where I can find the classes for the top bar and other elements as well as a chunch of CSS to let me make the format mods?

You can use Chrome's developer tool to find the classes, this is how we do.
