I am using the Branded template and want to edit the footer and add a form to it but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. Also, is it necessary to have three widgets in the footer?

As for widgets, you can choose how many display: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/footer-widgets/
I figured out how to select how many and how to change the copyright + what not. The issue I having is that the widgets that are at my disposal aren't what I would like in the footer. I'd love to add a short contact form and some social links. I'm assuming that I'd have to do that through HTML?

most Contact Form plugins will provide either their own widget, such as Ninja forms or a Short code that can be added using the HTML widget.
