Feature Request for new Underline Links

I love the new underline links feature!
Would it be possible to add an additional option in the drop-down for this?
That would be to underline links only within the #page or #content container (whichever you feel is best).
I ask because the Underline Links feature's description currently reads: "Add underlines to your links in your main content areas."
But the footer I have on my testing site uses a GB block for <footer> and links therein are still being underlined. So it would be great to be able to underline links only within the content area of pages and posts.
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to testing out GP 3.1 with GPP 2.1.0-alpha.1 and GB 1.3.5.
Cheers,
Paul
Hi Paul,
Thought about this a lot - it's hard to get the UI right when it comes to what to include/exclude.
It may be that we need to change the description unless you consider the content you add to the footer a main content area.
If you can't come up with a nice solution, you can always adjust things with a simple bit of CSS:
.site-footer a {
text-decoration :none;
}
Semantically, I tend to think of content as anything within <main>, <section>, or <article> elements, but not <header>, <nav> or <footer>, so this is why I was surprised by the results of the setting. True, I could eliminate link underlines in <footer> with CSS, it's just something I expected to behave "as advertised on the tin" and just wanted to share my user experience re this. Cheers. This update looks really great Tom, love the global colors, Typography, and React settings panel upgrades too!
Appreciate the feedback! Is there any particular reason you'd want underlined links in your content but not in the footer as well?
Glad you like the updates! I'm really happy with them as well :)
Hi Tom, I prefer to not underline links in footers to keep the footer as clean as possible. Typically in my design work I use a contrasting color on footer links, but in the main content areas I like to keep the link color the same as the text and just use an underline to denote hyperlinks. I just figured this new Underline Links feature was the quick way to accomplish this based on the current description. Cheers.
Really appreciate the feedback - thank you! :)
