feature image shows twice on same page

i'm using generate press and pro with elementor pro. i created a template with a feature image. for some reason, when it's displayed twice in the same area. It shows an unstretched image above the stretched image. i contacted elementor and they're plugin is not the cause. i switched themes and the problem is resolved. i'd rather use your theme so can you take a look and provide a fix?

Since you're displaying the image using Elementor, you can disable the featured image in GeneratePress: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/adjusting-the-featured-images/
If it's a page, click the "Pages" tab, and uncheck the "Display featured images" checkbox.
What was the fix to this? I have the same issue with a GeneratePress / Elementor theme. I love the theme and spent hours working on it... but I have that irritating double feature image in all of my posts and I cannot find out how to get rid of the 2nd image .. I have tried several approaches including the one listed here (unchecking the featured image in layout/blog .. does not work) .... any advise would be great as I am about ready to bail on this theme and ask for my 30day guaranteed refund from GP
The customizer options Tom mentioned should definitely work.
