Favicon uploaded in Customizer but not showing on Chrome tab

Hi, I've uploaded a favicon, it shows on the dashboard page just fine, but not for the website or when logged out. Is there a way I can get the favicon to stick? For this website I'm using Elementor page builder.

what file format are you using for the icon?
The best method is to upload your favicon.ico to the root directory of your site.
It's a png. Ok so maybe I can export it into an .ico with my mac preview and install there. Would that require doing it via my cpanel for the shared hosting I'm on? Thanks.
Thats correct via your cPanel or FTP.
