exerpt in blog overview layout doesn't work

In several test installations (in xampp) this same thing happens:
The blog overview does not show any text even if I have chosen "exerpt"
"Full content" works fine.

have you tried disabling plugins to see if any are conflicting?
Also do you have any custom functions added to the site?
Hi,
I found no conflicting plugins. However, it works with new posts. Something has happened with the old ones that I can't change. Have to recreate them. Perhaps because of a plugin I have tested, perhaps it was Yoast.

There is that possibility that an older plugin stripped the excerpt. I hope you don't have too many to recreate.
