Excerpts not working

Trying to limit the excerpts to 40 characters but its not having any effect unfortunately:

Hi there,
WordPress strips all HTML (links, videos etc) in excerpt by default.
Since all of that is still showing on your blog page, it's generally because the more tag is being added in the posts: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/using-the-more-tag/
Can you double check?
