I tried to add another Header element for another page and I couldn’t get it to accept the new photo and, in trying, I did things like copy an existing element and added the new page, which worked but when I took off the new page, now THAT page header doesn’t appear. (If that’s at all clear). Maybe there was something about the original picture, I just can’t figure it out. Thanks, Jana

    Hi there,

Can you clear and disable your caching plugin first?

Please always do this when starting a topic.

As for your question, I’m not quite sure if I understand.

Can you specify the pages we should be looking at? I’m looking at the Our Councils page and doesn’t look like there is a background image uploaded.

My cache plugin in deactivated (after I cleared the cache) and I’ve used different private browsers with cleared caches as well.

Here are the pages that aren’t showing the custom images, which are in the header elements:
    https://animalwellnessaction.org/about/
    https://animalwellnessaction.org/action-alerts/
    https://animalwellnessaction.org/our-councils/

And I don’t know where the dark grey box instead of the header is coming from – the element Background Color is clear.

This just started happening yesterday when I added a new header element – maybe this photo was problematic but it’s gone now and I’m using photos that are being used in other element successfully.

Are you using the featured image or custom image for the background image?

The background color is coming from the page hero setting:
    https://www.screencast.com/t/GsPa1EgLDV

Maybe check to see if any of the header element has that colors set for the background color?

I’m narrowing my focus on the about page, which worked until yesterday, when I included the new /our-councils/ page to it – then it stopped showing the photo that it had previously.

There are no colors added to any of the header elements, except for the slider front page – and that one has exclusions set for the entire site – so don’t know why it’s showing on other page.

But that’s not the main problem – which is I can’t create any new hero pic header elements for any new pages – and my About page header isn’t working anymore.

I’m stuck!!! I really appreciate your help!

Not sure if this makes sense. If that page hero is for the front page only, then you should only need to add Frontpage in the display rule without adding any exclusions.

But that’s not the main problem – which is I can’t create any new hero pic header elements for any new pages – and my About page header isn’t working anymore.

What do you mean by you can’t? Like the button doesn’t work?

As exclusions – I always add ‘entire site’ just to be safe. Is that wrong?

I can create the new elements – but they new ones aren’t showing the hero photos anymore, even though I created them by copying the old working elements.

Sorry if I’m not being clear – but I’m just really confused right now!

Yes that doesn’t make sense. If you add Entire site in the exclusion, then it would exclude the entire site so please adjust that.

I’m going to guess that you have a conflict in display rules somewhere so please give this a read:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/conflicting-display-rules/

You can also disable all the header elements first by setting them to Draft then reactivate them one by one and pin point the issue.

Thank you so much for this troubleshoonintg advice – I took off all the unnecessary exclusions, put everything on draft and republished and everything’s good to go – including the new pages (our-councils). I wonder if it was the exclusions that was causing it all.
Thanks again, you guys always save the day for me!! Best, Jana
