Edit archives.php to use Essential Grid

I'm using the plugin eddential grid to show my posts in a grid and it works nice on the index where I used a shortcode and placed it on a page. However I want to use the grid format for all posts for example when you open the category or search page. Essential grid advises to edit the archive-page, however I'm not sure if that's a good idea in terms of new theme updates. These are their instructions:

How would you recommend to enable the theme to show those grids instead of normal posts?

you would need to begin by installing a child theme:

Then copying over each of the template files and making those edits. Its quite a lot of work. How does essential grid differ from the GP blog? Might be easier to style blog to look similar.
