dynamic typography / css min clashing

i'm migrating this site from another theme (storefront) and am having trouble getting the base html font to change using the new typography tools. i'm trying to use a google font (in the list) called fira sans, but when i view the source, it seems to be grabbing the font for the main.min.css which resets everything to default system fonts.

Hi there,
when you add the Typography select: body NOT `HTML.
The HTML selector exists in case you want to set REM font sizes.

so much has changed since i started using generatepress. do you guys have a bootcamp or something when new stuff comes out? i know i am stuck in old ways. ;)
