Hi,

Love everything about this wordpress theme, including these fantastic support forums.

I've found a lot of the answers to my questions here but haven't been able to find an answer to these ones (sorry if I missed them).

Questions:

#1: Am I able to show latest posts AND latest pages on my static homepage?

#2: Am I able to group these by category (assuming I use a plugin to assign categories to pages)? This is similar to a question asked here: https://generatepress.com/forums/topic/group-blog-posts-by-category-on-homepage-with-a-featured-post-for-each-category/, but I not sure how to get this to work for pages as well. And I'm not sure how to format this nicely with a featured image for the latest post in a category.

Thank you in advanced for your help.

Hi David,

Thank you for your response.

I want to use the same format as possible on using the "latest posts" featured, with the sidebar as well. See attached – https://i.imgur.com/maPFh0L.png.

Although I figured out how to show the appropriate posts using WP Show Posts, I can't figure out:

a) How to integrate this page with the side bar (shown above) and;
b) How to keep the white (padded) background of the post with a grey background in between (i.e. https://i.imgur.com/ZaAvJYk. All my attempts using the plugin have been unsuccessful.

I feel that this may involve integration specific to this WP theme, so I have posted my question here. Are you able to help me with this?

Within the customizer you can set the Sidebars to display on pages, then the Recent Posts widget will be displayed.
Can you create a new Page and add the WPSP Shortcode to it. I can then have a look at providing you the instruction and CSS to make them match the GP Blog.

Done.

Made it so that the homepage is now a static page. Used WPSP to show the latest Pages (use pages for this example – posts are easy to group).

So how do I:

#1 Group the pages by category (or parent page?)
#2 If grouping the pages by category, is there a better way to assign categories to pages then this (outdated) plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/post-tags-and-categories-for-pages/
#3 Have the first page in each category be a "featured" post type?
#4 Add a side bar?

That said seeing the page now, I would much rather a nice looking category grouping (i.e. questions #1-3) then have a side bar.

Thank you for your prompt responses David :)

1. Create a separate WPSP list for each Category. There is a category filter on the post tab. Then just add multiple shortcodes to your page content. Please note the warning in WPSP about using Pagination when there are multiple lists on a page.

2. This seems a little more well supported:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/add-category-to-pages/

3. Thats a PRO feature of WPSP:
https://wpshowposts.com/downloads/wp-show-posts-pro/

4. Customizer > Layout > Sidebars - set the for pages. Or you can use the Layout Meta to add them independently:
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/layout-metabox-overview/

Thank you very much for your help David.

#1 - Done
#2 - Installed – great recommendation.
#3 – Installed as well (premium) – another great recommendation.

If you look at the site now, you can see I've updated it so that there are pages categorised, with the first page as a featured page.

But I'm still having a bit of trouble with #4.

How can I implement this sidebar such that it will be there for only my homepage, and not all of my other pages? Thanks Dave!

That is exactly what I was looking for!

Thank you very much for your time David! :)

You're welcome
