Disable image attachment pages

Hi, is there a way to disable image attachment pages? This page suggests creating an image.php in the child theme and adding a code snippet. Is this what you'd recommend too, or is there a way to do it using Elements?

The last reply seems to be the most up to date and the user even put his code out as a plugin.
NOTE - also most SEO plugins handle this kind of thing.
