Disable Blogroll? GeneratePress + Generate Blocks + WP Show Posts
15 replies · Started by Jabien on March 12, 2022
Hi,
I am trying to customize a /blog/ page on a staging site with WP Show Posts but after I add the shortcode to Gutenberg, the default blogroll still shows up after the WP Show Posts blogroll. Is there a way to disable it?
Thanks in advance!
Hi there,
is your/blog page the one set to display your Latest Posts in Settings > Reading ?
Yes, it is.
Then DO NOT set the page to display your latest posts
Sorry, I misread the question the first time. It is set to a static page, not latest posts.
If it's set to static page then the default posts loop should not be there.
Can you link us to the page in question?

It's a staging site so I'm not sure if the link will work without a password.
Hi Jabien,
Blog will always be there as WP generates it automatically, you can't really remove it.
The workaround would be creating a static page with a random page name, then assign it as your posts page.
Then people won't be able to access this link your-domain/blog, it will return a 404 page.
It does the same thing when I had it set to /all-articles/.
I just changed it back to /all-articles so you can see. The WP generated blog roll is still there beneath the one I created.
This is a static page, I don't see the default posts list:

I think you are still on the /blog page and not /all-articles. Here is the link: https://wordpress-539607-2483083.cloudwaysapps.com/all-articles/
Or possibly a cache issue on your end?
You added the WPSP list on the blog page?
The all article page is the blog page, so the default posts will be there for sure.
You can NOT assign the all article page as the posts page, it needs to remain as a static page.
Okay, I think I understand. So basically the only way to get around the default posts built into Wordpress is to pretend they don't exist, create your own blog roll page and just never link to the default WP version (/blog/)?
To add on, when I was using Elementor, I could kind of just overwrite the page but you're saying I can't really do that with Generate Press and Generate Blocks? Am I getting that right?
