Hi,
It would be great to be able to show different sidebar widgets on different pages, giving some similar functionality to this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/custom-sidebars/ but built into the theme. The theme already allows you to over-ride the global settings for content layout i.e) sidebar/content or content/sidebar
So it seems the next logical step to have similar options for displaying different widgets.July 14, 2016 at 9:12 am #209636Tom
Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperHi Andrew, thanks for the suggestion!
Personally I think this is more plugin territory than theme.
For example, if you had a complicated set up where some widgets showed up on some pages and not others and you switched themes, you would expect those changes to stay with your site, not be lost with the theme.
There’s also the fact that the more plugins I release, the more updates I have to do. If something already exists (and is coded well) that is updated by someone else, I’ll usually just point people to their plugin.
This is why I haven’t done any slider plugins as well.
Of course, if some day there isn’t a good option out there, then I’m all for creating one ๐

Thanks for your (always) informative reply.
I appreciate your point regarding switching themes, although that is not something I’ve ever had to do on a client’s site.
Would you recommend the plugin I listed above to achieve this or is there another?.

Thanks, looks good but unfortunately hasn’t been updated for 9 months and doesn’t appear to be supported anymore.

Lead DeveloperLead Developer9 months isn’t that long for a stable plugin.
It’s used on over 200,000 websites currently, and only has 7 support threads in the last 2 months, which is pretty good.
There’s other options as well, like Custom Sidebars and Widget Context. I just prefer the UI of Display Widgets.
