Custom sidebar content on home page

I would like to place different content in the sidebar of my home page vs. all the other pages. I don't want to change the layout of the sidebar, just the content inside it. Is this best done through a plugin or can it be done within GP premium?

easiest way is with a plugin like Content Aware Sidebars:
