Creating a Featured Articles Section on Homepage

Is there a way I can create a featured articles section on my homepage such as the one on the website that I linked below? I've downloaded the WP show posts plugin and tried to make the customizations myself but it's turned out looking like a mess. I've also tried using query loop but because there seems to be limited resources on what to do regarding the exact layout I'm trying to achieve, I wasn't very successful at creating it that way either. Any pointers would help a ton!

Thanks! I've tried creating something similar just by visually looking at it but was unsuccessful. It looks like the featured section has some padding around it that may have been created with GB but I'm not sure. When I set the posts to show up above the main content it looks really wacky. Are you able to see the placement it's set to by chance? I want to create it exactly like the one on the site, but can't get figure out how to edit text, make posts show side by side, or anything else that it looks like the site owner did with his grid. I'm willing to post code in if I have to.

Yes, I've linked it in a private message. As you can see, it looks nothing like what's on the example site. I've tried messing with it a bit to see if maybe I could figure it out but I haven't had much luck.
Can you clear and disable your caching plugin first?
Done! Let me know if that worked, I've been having some issues with my caching lately.
I believe there is still something interfering with the content loading.

Can you deactivate all plugins except GP Premium and WPSP?
Make sure there is no server caching interfering as well.
Oops, I cleared but forgot to disable caching altogether. Try again and if that doesn’t work, I’ll disable plugins.
I'm not able to see the source code so there must be something interfering still.
Maybe it's a good idea to start a staging site so we can do some properly testing.

There are no special tips - your hosting support should be able to help generally.
Okay, I’ve deactivated everything except show posts and GP premium. I’ve also kept Short codes ultimate. That’s what’s displaying the WP show posts. I’ll deactivate that too if you need me to. I’ll go to my host and ask about creating a staging site.

Shortcodes Ultimate shouldn't be needed here. WPSP comes with shortcode by default.
I wonder if that's what's causing the issue.
I've just disabled it and cleared cache. Looks to be assuming the same format after refreshing the page.
