    I have a GP site at generatepress.michianait.net.

I thought I understood how to create a page header in Gutenberg, but I’m still missing some key concept.

This site uses the Donate starter site. I have added a page called Donate_Test, which is in the menu. I am trying to create a header (with image) for this page only. Do I need to add another Merge element, and another block header element? Where do I specify the image?

    Thanks

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

Here’s the documentation of block element – page hero with tutorial video:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/block-element-page-hero/

Donate site has been updated, not sure you imported the old version or the new version.

If your elements screen looks like the screenshot below, then it’s the new version.

If it’s the new version, you don’t need to create another Merge header element, it’s already assigned to the entire site, so it applies to any new pages you created as well.

If it’s the old version, can you send me a screenshot of your elements?

You can use this method to upload screenshots: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/using-the-premium-support-forum/#uploading-screenshots

    Let me know ๐Ÿ™‚

    Thanks Ying.

Does Tom have a video on this also? (I know he has one on the old style way of creating Page Heros)

    Thanks again, Ying.

I have the new version of the Donate starter site. It seems like there is a “Merge” element and a Page hero/header element. I understand that the “Merge” element is only used to merge the site header and page hero, and I imagine the Page Hero/Header element is to actually place the header on the individual page. So I just need to create another Page Hero/Header if I want to use it on a particular page?

Also, I can’t see in the Page Hero/Header element where the image comes from. It doesn’t seem to have a background image. Are those images already on the page, and the Header element doesn’t have an image in it?

    Thanks,

    Mark

Yes, you just need to create one of these and assign it to a specific page. But do remember to exclude it from the Page headers (block – page hero), since it’s assigned to the entire site.
    https://www.screencast.com/t/1eLUDlVc

The Page headers (block – page hero) has a static background image, which means all the pages will use the same image.

The Post headers ( block -page hero) has a dynamic background image, which means different posts will use different featured images.

The Merge (header) has no content in it, it’s just for merging purposes. All the styles should be set in the block – page hero elements.

And here’s a walkthrough video for Donate site, should be useful ๐Ÿ™‚
