Control on Blog Posts

Hi Tom,
How do I control number of blog posts or category of blog posts I want to show on my home page or blog page?
For example
(1) I want so show 5 featured blog post on home page and
(2) On my blog page, I want to show 3 posts each from different categories...I think I am talking about TABS.
Can I do it easily like I used to do with StudioPress Genesis?
(I just changed one website from Genesis StudioPress to your theme - Could not resist. :)

Not screen shots, I think you need to see this in action. Ok, got it.
While this isn't possible in GP right now - I'm almost done a plugin that will achieve the desired result :)
