Canonical Tag Question

Hi guys,
I'm not sure if this is out of the scope of your support, but just incase you can point me in the right direction...
I'm trying to figure out how to add canonical tags so that google doesn't penalise me for duplicate content. I read that you can add a link back to the original post on the duplicate post via the Yoast SEO plugin, which I have, which is great. But then somewhere else I read that just doing this isn't enough. I need to create a code and insert it into the website (I'm presuming the new one, not the old one?)
I just wondered if you had any more info on this and where in the website the code would need to go? Would that just be under the Customise thing where you copy all of the other code? Is that the right place?
Any insights would be amazing. Thanks!
Ella
Hi there,
To the best of my knowledge the method that Yoast uses is one of 5 methods that canonical tags can be added, and there should be no need to have more than 1 method. But there are lots of complexities around these tags that have to be considered and its something an SEO expert would be best to advise you on.
If you have a link what you read elsewhere i can take a look to see what it recommends?
