Hello,
I have had breadcrumbs on and off on my website as I hadn’t gotten around to creating a child theme and the breadcrumbs kept getting wiped as the only way it worked to implement them was by enabling them in Yoast and adding them directly to my posts.php file.
I just created a child theme after breadcrumbs had disappeared again and I have tried pretty much everything available in the forum and cannot get breadcrumbs to display at all via hooks? E.g. I have followed all the instructions on this page: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/adding-breadcrumbs/
October 11, 2020 at 7:59 am #1483415LeoStaffCustomer SupportHi there,
Have you tried the hooks element method?
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/adding-breadcrumbs/#using-hooks-elementThat does not require a child theme.
October 14, 2020 at 4:45 am #1488315DeirdreAs I said in the above comment, I already tried both ways to get breadcrumbs on the adding-breadcrumbs page (hook and function), and neither work.
October 14, 2020 at 5:09 am #1488349DavidStaffCustomer SupportHi there,
can you use the method Leo provided and then provide a link to a post where the breadcrumbs should appear.
October 14, 2020 at 6:55 am #1488488DeirdreHi yes I had that method implemented before and it wasn’t working, now I’ve tried it with the shortcode [wpseo_breadcrumb] and it appears but it appears in a weird place at the top of the text but below the photo and jump to recipe buttons. Is there no way to have it automatically appear? e.g. on this page https://www.thefieryvegetarian.com/peri-peri-sauce-recipe/
October 14, 2020 at 7:03 am #1488506DavidStaffCustomer SupportWhere do you want it positioned ?
October 14, 2020 at 7:12 am #1488529DeirdreAbove my title would be great but is there no way for the breadcrumbs to show up automatically on posts without manually inserting a shortcode?
October 14, 2020 at 8:34 am #1488792DavidStaffCustomer SupportIt should work by adding it to a Hook Element.
You can add the Shortcode to the hook text area.
Select thebefore_content
hook
Visual guide of hooks hereCheck Execute Shortcodes.
And set your Display Rules to where you require them eg. Posts > All posts.October 16, 2020 at 3:27 am #1491667DeirdreHi sorry that still does not work. The breadcrumbs still show up below the jump to recipe button instead of above the title, and they do not appear on pages unless I actually manually add the shortcode.
October 16, 2020 at 3:50 am #1491694DavidStaffCustomer SupportWell thats odd – try the
before_entry_title
hook and let me know.October 16, 2020 at 4:09 am #1491722DeirdreHi I’ve tried the before_entry_title hook as well and no go. I played around with it and the long and short of it is that the breadcrumbs will only appear in a post if I manually insert [wpseo_breadcrumb] (which I can’t insert above the title from the wordpress post edit page, otherwise that would be okay). Without manually inserting the shortcode they don’t appear at all.
October 16, 2020 at 4:19 am #1491730DavidStaffCustomer SupportCan you provide a screen shot of your Hook Element – the content and the display rules tab?
October 16, 2020 at 7:02 am #1491910DeirdreSure, but what should we use to share screenshots, it looks like I can only include img urls?
October 16, 2020 at 7:10 am #1491933DavidStaffCustomer SupportYou will have to save the images to a share drive, or your WP Media Library and share the URLs. Alternatively use an image sharing site like imgur
