Cancelled Aksimet and get littered with spam

Hi guys and girls,
Quick question... I cancelled Jetpack, since you guys have better tools and Siteground optimization works better without. Problem is i also lost Aksimet (can't get the free one since i have ads), and get littered with spam on the post comments.
Is reCAPTCHA the best way to go, or are there better alternatives?
Appreciate your thoughts. :)

i can't recommend directly - but i have read a lot of good reviews on this plugin:

And it doesn't Captchas - which can kill site performance.
