Blog Masonry/Column padding?
10 replies · Started by Em on January 3, 2017
Hi all,
I'm trying to add padding between columns on a blog archive page, and remove padding above/below image. I've done some digging but can't find the right CSS to add for either. Would also like to know how to do this with Masonry enabled, although I prefer the look of Columns. (Here's the page: ) Thanks in advance!

Hi there,
Link to your page is not showing up. Can you double check?
If you head to Customizer > Layout > Container > Content Layout and choose Separate Containers then each blog post would have its own container. However that might change the layout of some other pages.
If you would like to have Separate Containers for blog page only, this post should help: https://generatepress.com/forums/topic/separate-containers-just-in-the-blog-page/#post-217779
Let us know.
It doesn't look like you're using the Separate Containers option, so you should be safe adjusting the value Leo mentioned: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/separating-space/
Thanks Leo & Tom! This has helped a lot.
Now that everything is separate containers, is it possible to change the background color 'within' the container areas, leaving the side margins as gray?
Here are two different examples:
Short content
Short sidebar
Thanks so much,
mdj
That first link isn't working for me...
For colors inside the containers, head to Customizer > Colors > Content > Background. You can find other blog color options there as well.
For sidebar widget, head to Customizer > Colors > Sidebar Widgets
Let us know if this is what you are after :)
I just used a 404 page to show a page with minimal content, sorry for the confusion! ;-) I think I'm explaining myself poorly, so thanks for your patience.
I'd like to keep the side margins gray. But in this first example, I'd like the space under the sidebar widgets to be white.

In this second example, I'd like the space under the content to be white.

This worked when I was in one container, but with separate containers it treats the unused space as "background." Is there a way for the separate spacing background to be different than the page's background?
Thank you guys so much!
You shouldn't actually need to change the content layout to separate containers. You can keep it using "One Container" and still use the separating space to add spacing between your columns.
Let me know if that helps or not :)
Sorry for the delay in responding! Yes, switching back to "One Container" fixes the background color issue; adding "Separating Space" puts the space between the posts. Issue resolved@
Two things I noticed, perhaps fixable:
-Changing values in any other boxes on that page forces a visual refresh, but not "Separating Space." That's why I didn't think it was working, because I couldn't see any difference when I changed the value.
-The tooltip under "Separating Space" implies that it only works using "Separate Containers." That's why I didn't think to try that setting sooner.
Thanks for your help!
Thanks! I'll look into that :)
