blog column layout with first post as featured - paged

hello
I've set up my layout as a two column layout showing the first post full width and then 6 blogs in 3 rows at 2 columns - that looks nice - however, on the 2nd page I'm obviously not getting the featured post anymore so I'm ending up with 4 rows and the last row showing only one post which kind of look weird.
is there a way to adjust the number of posts shown on the 2nd page and onward??
