Bilingual blog won't re-direct to second language

Hi guys,
So I run my blog in 2 languages, French and English.
On every article there is a "english / French" link on the side of it. that works a treat.
On my secondary menu in the top bar though, I have a "English" or "French" button displayed depending on which version of the blog you are on.
Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't... The links are right so I am wondering where that randomness comes from.
Mostly when I am on the French version and click on "English", it just re-loads the French homepage. Can you be of any help?

Weird seems to be working pretty consistently for me.
Are you using a plugin to achieve it?
I think there was an issue in the linking of the pages with the plugin I was using.
