Background-color / GP hooks before footer

I added a little html in the GP hooks before footer but I cant get the background color to work unless I change the body bg-color. Is there another way to do this?
Hmm try give it a div and class then target it with CSS?
I did that to begin with but I am using a slider in my div and I didn't target the slider. My mistake. Thank you for your reply.
