If used where it is necessary and not in excess then Ajax can improve performance, particularly for the user experience. However anything used in excess will have an impact. Consider that the browser will be making more requests, when used excessively this can have an impact on the server.

You would need to get pricing from a developer. Go to codeable or a similar service and make some requests.

You could also use this plugin. It works out of the box with GP. The only limitation is you cannot set the number of posts to autoload, so it will load infinitely.
