after update footers are now blank

After an update my 4 footers no longer are appearing. I had content in them but now (please see above customizing_layout_footer.jpg link above) the content is not there. When I try to shift and click to edit I cannot edit.
When I go to edit footers (please see availble widgets image link above), they are blank and uneditable.
Both images are screenshots.

So are there any contents in the footer widget area? Can't actually tell from your screenshot.
