After Update 1.8 - Icons (e.g. X in cart page) shows up as blank squares

After installing the update 1.8, some icons show up as blank squares. Eg, The crosses on the cart page (to remove item from cart) show up as blank square.

Make sure to clear all plugin cache, server cache and browser cache.
