Adding Adsense Code To Footer Area

I know there are some Wordpress plugins to do this, but researching this forum and documentation page and I believe adding a new hook element is the way to go with this?
I want to add one Adsense ad to the footer area of my website. Looks like Appearance, Elements, Add New, Hook should do it?
