500 Internal error
10 replies · Started by Temi on November 9, 2018
I'm trying to download a site library theme and have encountered this error.
I am using shared hosting, and was just informed that the PHP memory settings cannot be increased on a shared server. Is there a workaround for the PHP values in a shared environment?
Edited to add: I have Generate Press Premium on another website within the shared hosting. I have not upgraded to 2.2
Thanks

Hi there,
If the 500 error is memory related, then the memory would need to be increased in order for it to work.
You can check the error_log file for more details on the error. It's not 100% memory related.
Who are you hosted with? Increasing the memory limit to at least be enough to import a site shouldn't be an issue.
Hi Tom
I have shared hosting with Hostgator. They said that the memory settings cannot be increased on a shared server as they have limits of the following:
safe mode = Off (cannot adjust)
memory_limit = 256M (MAXIMUM)
max_execution_time = 30 (MAXIMUM in seconds)
max_input_time = 60 (MAXIMUM in seconds)
post_max_size = 64M (MAXIMUM)
upload_max_filesize = 64M (MAXIMUM)
enable_dl = Off (cannot adjust)
Is there a workaround to the PHP values in a shared environment? I already have Generate Press on one website within my shared hosting. This was my attempt for a second website.
Thanks
Temi
Edited to add: I was able to install the theme and Site Library on another website with my shared hosting. However, this time, I didn't click the Update Now button when installing the theme.
That should be plenty of memory.
So the two sites are using different versions? What version of the theme/plugin are you running on each?
For the first site, I had uploaded 2.1.2, then clicked Update Now, next to New Version available. (not sure the number of the new version)
For the second site, I uploaded 2.1.2 but did not click to update.
That might just be a coincidence then. The free theme (2.1.4) doesn't have any effect on the Site Library.
Any chance you can get Hostgator to check your error_log for more details on the 500 error?
This was from the error log:
Failed loading /opt/ioncube/ioncube_loader_lin_7.1.so: /opt/ioncube/ioncube_loader_lin_7.1.so: undefined symbol: zend_interrupt_function, referer: http://www.goodbooks.ca/wp-admin/import.php
So do I click update on my second site? I don't want to trigger the same error?
Thanks
Temi
That's definitely an error you'll want to report to your hosting.
You shouldn't have any issue updating on the second site.
Hi Tom
The error that I listed just now was what Hostgator discovered in the error log.
Thanks for the help - hope I have no more issues.
Temi
No problem :)
