    oh great! so i shouldn’t bother to update it then, since it’ll be fixed soon anyways 🙂

    Hi Leo,

    Weirdly I wanted to edit the tag on the screen reader text. It’s an <h6> which doesn’t fall into the heading hierarchy. See on this accessibility report: https://accessibility.page.report/GBXGDGIFJJABIHIIAUFJ/106149/22515810617#automatic/2.4.10/15

    It is right? The main concern is if you have multiple HTML5 elements such as <nav>, <header>, or <aside>, it’s helpful to add the label to tell them apart. If you only have one <nav> then it’s not really an issue, from my understanding.

    Sure, scroll down to the examples on this page (they’re written for HTML4 elements but you’ll see what I mean): https://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/wiki/Using_ARIA_landmarks_to_identify_regions_of_a_page

    perfect, thank you 🙂

    in reply to: Redundant WAI-ARIA attribute on main and footer #289735

    Fair question 🙂 Been awhile. But honestly I’m not seeing why I did this in the first place. I just removed my custom footer.php on one of my sites and it made no difference, so thinking I’ll do that for all of them. Thanks 🙂

    Speaking of my manual footer.php —

    This is probably an annoying question, but, below is my code in my footer.php. I’m looking at the code in the parent theme and I see do_action( ‘generate_footer’), etc. Does that replace what my code currently does? Can I just remove my child theme footer.php at this point?

    Code:

    <?php
    /**
     * The template for displaying the footer.
     *
     * Contains the closing of the id=main div and all content after
     *
     * @package Generate
     */
    ?>

    	</div><!-- #content -->
    </div><!-- #page -->
    <?php do_action('generate_before_footer'); ?>
    <div <?php generate_footer_class(); ?>>
    	<?php
    	do_action('generate_before_footer_content');
    	global $post;
    	$generate_settings = wp_parse_args(
    		get_option( 'generate_settings', array() ),
    		generate_get_defaults()
    	);
    	$stored_meta = '';
    	if ( isset( $post ) ) :
    		$stored_meta = get_post_meta( $post->ID, '_generate-footer-widget-meta', true );
    	endif;

    	// Don't run the function unless we're on a page it applies to
    	if ( ! is_singular() ) :
    		$stored_meta = '';
    	endif;

    	if ( '' !== $stored_meta && false !== $stored_meta ) :
    		$generate_settings['footer_widget_setting'] = $stored_meta;
    	endif;

    	if ( !empty( $generate_settings['footer_widget_setting'] ) && 0 !== $generate_settings['footer_widget_setting'] ) :

    Oh good to know. Looks like these are my bad, I have custom footer.php and page.php files in my child theme! I’ll go ahead and change these manually. 🙂

    ….now THAT is a brain fart for the ages. Thank you. =/

    good point. i didnt realize you could actually add straight HTML to the navigation label! im going to do that, thank you

    in reply to: Spacing issue on navigation after update #268473

    It looks like this plugin is the culprit:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/menu-image/

    When I deactivate, the arrows appear.

    I want to be able to use this plugin if possible.

    That’s just a style, added to the child theme stylesheet 🙂

    @media (max-width: 768px) {
    #right-sidebar {
        margin-top: 1em;
        border: 1px solid #eee;
        padding-top: 1em;
        padding-left: 1em;}
    }

    No problem! It’s weird though because I have MANY other sites and I only noticed this issue on one other site: http://mclib.info/

    in reply to: Google Site Search/Custom Search implementation #265883

    Playing around with this and noticed something interesting.

    Via this gist, replacing the default search with another one in functions.php: gist

    If I add the following code

    <form class="form search-form navigation-search" >
    <gcse:searchbox-only></gcse:searchbox-only>
    </form>

    The search box then appears in the proper place, in the nav bar.

    It appears that having a <form> tag is the trigger. If I wrap the GSE code in a <div>, for example, the search box doesn’t appear.

    That means that there end up being 2 <forms>, one nested in the other. (The GSE code renders out, of course, as a <form>)

    My question is — what file has that <form> trigger? And can I edit it to be a div, or a class, or ANYTHING else? I would ideally do something like

    <div class="form search-form navigation-search" >
    <gcse:searchbox-only></gcse:searchbox-only>
    </div>

    Does this make any sense? I can post this somewhere if you want to see.
